  • Last entry for a little while

    Good evening chaps,

Well, things are really progressing. I'm well on my way backpacking. I have shamelessly neglected my blog and others - my apologies. Though I'm afraid you may have to put up with several postings as I go on about x country, x experience, x person...!

My travel philosophy: the plan is to have no plan...though I've still planned for that!! Had numerous vaccinations, checked I can get visas from neighbouring countries, sold my car, decided I'll work abroad too, etc.

I've bought my backpack (60+10lt - Berghaus' new one - no scrimping!), my tent (Coleman - v good), and my sleeping bag (Vango).

So, from 'exciting' career to doing things how and when I want to do them with NOOO pressures will be rather a shock to the system, I'm hoping...!

Enough of all that though. My Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is calling..!

  • Hey Boggart Blog thing...

    This is my hypocritical confession:

    My media diet today

Wife Swap (not even the UK one!)
My Family and Other Animals (not Gerald Durrell, but 5 wild kids and a rather 'given up hope' father!)
    Women on a Revenge Mission

Why do I watch this cr*p? Just to remind me of my perfect self righteous-ness???!!!

    Ah well, it's self-indulgent voyeurism I guess!

(IanRThorpe - not quite a justified rant, eh?!)

    G'night All.

From a slightly merry me, having just drunk half a bottle of (Oh no, it's really crap wine).... Julio Gallo Merlot (Ouch - that hurt!!!) It WAS on offer, you know - at my local news agents. They know me all too well now; enough to leave the till as soon as I come in, cos they just know I'm going to stand for at least 15 mins in front of the wine selection. It's almost a daily trip. (No, I'm not an alcoholic, and I do share... occasionally!!)

Bonne Soirée à tous et toutes!

  • Day 3 - cycling HURTS!

I've been reading cathead, tim's montonjon, plus other blogs. They are all amazing people!! I'm sort of blogged out after all that reading...

Ha, but I, yes unfit me, cycled 20 miles today and it isn't too good on the old posterior! I did 30 miles last weekend. I have to say this cycling malarkey isn't too bad. I looked into joining a cycle club, but they don't have provisions for people who want to do it for leisure, plus I have a mountain bike not a racer, nor the finances to spend buying the club 'colours' (Have you seen those sexy cycling outfits - yuck!!!)

THEN, when I got back from cycling, I helped dig a 15 foot pond. I deserve a pat on the back surely!!! But now I'm :zz:...

Now melting into glass of Chianti DOCG too I'll have you know!!

By the way whoever did it, please don't invite me to an internet business thingy stay-at-home jobby wotsit - If you bothered to read below - that's exactly what I'm trying to get away from!!!

    Bye for now

  • 26/04/05 Day One & The Truth today

    Hello there,

My blog is a sort of diary. It's my first, so bear with me,I'm not used to all this! I want it to be about France, about my past, future, my achievements, my moving on.

    For today, here it goes:

I have several choices dans ma vie and these are:

    a) Die early from heart attack due to regular abuse of body through alcohol, smoking and lack of exercise
    b) Get sacked for not being a dynamic multi-tasking uberwoman hurtling towards a nervous breakdown in the Rat Race
    c) Go travelling with D (the boyfriend), forget we need a pension, spend all our savings, get lost in a jungle then eventually move to france, become french and scorn 'les anglais', no, sorry, 'les roast-boeufs' with sufficient authenticity & hostility that Charles de Gaulle would have been proud of.
    d) Vote in the May election.

No-one chooses (d) these days. Voter apathy all the way. So what do others recommend I wonder? It's going to obviously be (c); you can smell the bias several countries away!

I'm actually not doing a bad job of masking the fact that I feel really low today.

Why? Well, primarily 'career' is the answer. I came out of uni thinking, 'great, I can start a proper life now', HAH, balls, don't believe it!!! But that is another rant anyway.

PS I will upload a pic as soon as I have one. Also - visit www.huskyz.com
